| | I am a graduate of the marriage and family therapy program (Ph.D.) at Purdue University, West Lafayette and am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) with 26 years of clinical experience. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing a brain or mood disorder (such as anxiety, depression, bipolar illness, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia) along with their partner and family. Also, having both a bachelors and masters degree in nursing, I have expertise working with individuals, couples, and families struggling with a chronic medical condition (cancer, heart disease, diabetes) where major life adjustments, preparing for death or non-compliance to treatment are concerns. | During the 21 years I have practiced in the Lafayette area, many times I have had the joy of working with the same family as they move through the life cycle. This included offering assistance with pre-marriage and marriage challenges, transition to parenthood, struggles with the school aged or adolescent child, children leaving home, in-law and grand parenting difficulties, retirement, chronic illness, and end of life issues.
I also have specialized training working with couples experiencing closeness (attachment) and communication difficulties. I am certified in EMDR and work with adults and children after a traumatic event. Finally, I have completed advanced training in working with adults struggling in their relationship with their parents and have facilitated two groups of therapists and ministers wanting to examine their own families of origin and the impact it may be having upon their work.
I have appointments available on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10am thru 10pm and on Fridays, 9am thru 7pm. I am a preferred provider on a number of insurance panels and offer a sliding scale fee when needed. You may reach me at (765) 497-3932, extension 91. | | |

| | I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. One of my areas of specialty are Perinatal Anxiety and Mood Disorders, which includes Mood and Anxiety Disorders during pregnancy, after delivery, dealing with traumatic birth experiences, adoptions, as well as problems related to parent/newborn attachment. Mood and Anxiety disorders in general (Depression, Bipolar, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders) and their effects on relationships are an integral part of my work. This also includes Depression and Anxiety in elderly people. | My other area of specialization is Divorce Counseling/ Divorce Recovery Counseling, and includes work both in an individual as well as group setting. Within this work, I am guiding people through the process of rebuilding their identity and sense of self after the loss of a formerly committed relationship (even the loss of a job). I also assist children who are affected by divorce, and help parents understand the magnitude of the emotional impact a separation/divorce has on children. With play and art therapy I help children in dealing with the changes they are facing.
In addition to these two specializations, I offer family or couple’s counseling for people who face challenges at any stage of their relationship or marriage such as lack or loss of intimacy and communication difficulties that often result in a loss of closeness, as well as in anger and frustration. I also work with people who have experienced the loss of a loved one, and are facing grief and bereavement, or are struggling with transitions in general.
I offer bilingual (German and English) individual, couples, and family counseling across the life span. My practice includes office-based as well as local home-based counseling.
As a member of the Lafayette Coalition for Community Awareness of Perinatal Anxiety and Mood Disorders (PAMD) I frequently facilitate a Support Group for those who suffer from Depression and/or Anxiety Disorders during pregnancy, postpartum or adoption.
I accept several insurances, and offer a sliding scale fee if needed. To obtain more information or to make an appointment, please call: 765-497-3932, ext.87, or send an email to: syeomanslmft@gmail.com. |

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Indiana and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I have extensive counseling experience with all age ranges in academic and clinical settings. I have provided academic, career, and personal counseling at Purdue since 1996. I provided out-patient psychotherapy at a community mental health center for seven years. My experience includes counseling individuals, couples and groups. I belong to the American Counseling Association, the Indiana Academic Advising Network, the Purdue Academic Advising Association and the National Academic Advising Association. |
Career & College Counseling:
In our society we spend most of our waking hours at work. I experience great joy assisting individuals with activities of self discovery which enable them to choose college majors and careers that are satisfying, enjoyable and rewarding.
Individual:
While at the mental health center I developed extensive experience with individuals suffering from various mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, identity development, relationships issues, miscommunication, borderline personality disorder and sexual orientation issues. I led a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) group for women with borderline personality disorder for several years.
Couples Counseling:
Working with couples my focus is generally on developing healthy communication, clarifying expectations, understanding the self and each other; as well as uncovering those past issues that are contributing to the conflicts in the relationship.
I believe that, in order to help an individual in a clinical or academic setting, it is of utmost importance to first understand the person and communicate that understanding in an empathic and understanding way. In addition to reflective listening, I use a variety of treatment modalities, choosing the therapy that will be most beneficial for the client. Among the therapies I practice are client centered, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, reality, strengths based and solution focused.
I am a preferred provider on several insurance panels, including the Purdue insurance plans. I also accept self-pay and sliding scale fees. I am available weekday evenings and weekends.
To obtain more information or to schedule an appointment with me, please call (765) 497-3932. You can also reach me directly on my cell phone at (765) 237-7652. |
